The BET Radio Drama Series

Through the BET radio drama series project in 2022, supported by the Hans Seidel Foundation we continued our efforts to raise a new generation of community champions and civic activists to raise awareness of their communities to influence behavior change amongst young men and women towards their participation in governance processes, mitigating SGBV and achievement of their sexual and reproductive health and rights. The BET is a “push back” edutainment program that employed empathy to catalyze a strong stance against gender inequality and the exclusion of women within its target audience.

Badili sensitized and strengthened the capacity of 23 young women and men from the urban informal settlements of Kayole, Kibera, Mathare, Thayu, and Mihang’o on the different themes captured in the BET Radio series. The themes explored through the sessions included leadership, governance, sexual and reproductive health rights, young women’s inclusion in leadership, and decision-making processes. The project trained the young men and women as ToTs who committed to cascading the information further to young people who are in their spaces of influence.
