Our Approach

Glam Session

We are pioneering a bold, feminist innovation that reimagines civic education by intentionally targeting young women who are often disengaged or excluded from political spaces. Through our signature and flagship Political Spas and Glam Sessions, we merge makeup artistry, personal grooming, and civic dialogue to create safe, affirming, and accessible entry points for young women to explore their political agency. These sessions, particularly popular among young women in tertiary institutions and informal settlements, use beauty culture as both an incentive and equalizer, transforming traditional civic education into a space that is enjoyable, impactful, and deeply relevant.

Over the past four years, these transformative sessions have drawn young women, many of whom would otherwise avoid political discourse, into engaging conversations on voter registration, reproductive rights, women’s political representation, the cost of living, and community development. This approach affirms that beauty and political consciousness are not mutually exclusive, but powerful tools when brought together to expand democratic participation and feminist leadership

Reimagining the unconventional spaces

We are reimagining unconventional spaces such as hair salons and Chama groups as catalysts for social change, strengthening these intimate spaces where women naturally gather into safe havens for discussing critical issues. Rather than dismissing the conversations that happen while women get their hair done or participate in table banking, we strengthen these familiar environments where women already feel comfortable and connected to facilitate meaningful dialogue on governance, rights, and community development.

Artivism

We use art to amplify the experiences of survivors of gender-based violence without re-traumatizing them, allowing them to share their stories through creative expression rather than direct recounting. Through visual storytelling, performance, and fashion runways, we raise awareness on GBV while centering survivor voices and emphasizing the urgency of prevention and support systems.

Digital Advocacy

We harness the power of social media platforms to raise awareness on gender-based violence, governance, and mental wellness while collaborating strategically with digital influencers to inject fresh energy into civic discussions. By transforming digital spaces into tools for meaningful dialogue, we bridge gaps between youth culture and civic responsibility, reaching audiences where they already engage daily.

Policy Analysis and Review

We advocate for gender-responsive policies through collaborative review processes, working directly with institutions like Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology to strengthen their sexual harassment policy. This ensures policies are updated to better protect female students and create more responsive institutional frameworks.

Research and Evidence–Based Programming

We conduct intensive research to identify barriers to women’s political participation, ranging from gender-based violence to unpaid care work, and providing tangible evidence for advocacy efforts and programme development. This research-driven approach ensures our strategies address real challenges women face, creating more inclusive political environments based on documented needs rather than assumptions.

Documentation and Knowledge Management Products

We create documentary films, such as “The Women King Makers,” and knowledge management products such as the Utu Cards and Leadership Card games to spark dialogue on women’s rights, while providing accessible resources that communities can use to advance equity and challenge barriers to women’s full social, economic, and political participation.
