Badili Africa works with chama women leaders whose networking power and potential as  critical tools for social, economic, political and democratic development of Kenya through  promotion of civic responsibility in informal settlements is routinely exercised and manifested  in electoral outcomes in the country. Majority of the male politicians often capitalize on chama  women networks during political campaigns to win an election.  

Most of these chama women leaders are key campaigners for political parties and candidates  and have borne the brunt of violence and harassment in elections that often goes unnoticed unrecognized and under reported because the focus is on the political candidates. Badili Africa  funded by Oxfam is currently conducting a study on some of the grassroots women mobilizers  who have lost their lives, suffered gender based violence and lost their families all because of  their engagement in political processes during elections.
