Increasing Women and Girls’ Rights Awareness

Increasing Women and Girls’ Rights Awareness in Nairobi’s Informal Settlements through Innovative Community-Based Approaches.

Preventing gender based violence against women

This Project seeks to confront harmful social and cultural norms that normalize gender-based violence (GBV) and systematically violate women’s rights. Recognizing the link between GBV, unpaid care work, weak law enforcement, and economic exclusion for women and girls, this initiative seeks to address the barriers preventing women and girls from accessing their rights. By leveraging trusted informal and solidarity spaces like Chamas and salons and engaging traditional and religious leaders, men and boys as allies, the project seeks to foster safer and more equitable communities in Nairobi’s informal settlements, specifically in Mathare, Kayole, Kawangware, and Kangemi, where women continue to face heightened risks of violence, economic exclusion, and social marginalization.
