The Charge for Change project recognizes and amplifies the collective power of Chama women as grassroots feminist leaders driving transformative change in their communities. By honoring the organizing power and solidarity networks that these Chama groups embody, we strengthen the capacity of the Chama women to disrupt exclusionary systems and claim decision-making spaces that have historically marginalized them. Working across three constituencies, Mathare, Kawangware, and Kangemi, with over six Chama groups representing more than 100 women, the project centers community-led research and advocacy. Through participatory mapping and collective analysis, Chama women document their lived experiences in relation to human rights violations, organize their communities around shared struggles, and develop locally-rooted solutions that challenge bad governance while advancing women’s leadership in political and civic spaces.
